Brake pads are the components of disc brakes used in automobiles and other vehicles. They are a combination of steel backing plates with friction material bound to the surface that faces the brake rotor. When the brake pedal is applied, the caliper presses the brake pad against the rotor, creating friction that stops the vehicle.
